Faisel Laibi

Iraq

“On my part, I dream, or seek to produce work of Iraqi characteristics, similar to the paintings of India, Iran, Mexico or Latin America in general, without, of course, ignoring the technical innovations developed during these days in Europe, America and Japan. My ambitions are moderate. I want to become in art what Dakhil Hasan, Yusif Omar, Hudhairi Abu Aziz and Gubbanchi are in singing. In other words, to achieve in art what they had achieved in music. I should like to produce paintings like pieces of Arab poetry or of Arab music on the Oud or Qanun. This is the spirit which I feel within me and which urges me to find an outlet in my paintings. I cannot, so far, claim success but I am endeavouring to achieve that. Is this the correct path? Perhaps the critics and art historians are better placed than the artist himself in making the correct judgement.” – Faisel Laibi Sahi

The works below are samples of Faisel Laibi’s work only. He will be showing one large Coffee House painting and four smaller sized works – all of which are still in production - along side two of his erotic drawings already entered below. We will update his site as soon as possible (as soon as the oil paint dries).
